Chester R. Gibbs

Chester R. Gibbs, the son of John L. and Ida E. Gibbs, was born on 20 December 1924, in Burlington, Iowa.
He attended Burlington High School from September 1939 to February 1941.
On 26 June 1942, Chester married the former Dorothy Rottman in Burlington.
Chester entered the United States Army circa June 1943. He left the European Theater of Operations circa June 1944. On 4 January 1945, Dorothy received a War Department telegram informing her that Chester was Killed in Action in Germany on 21 December 1944. At the time of his death, Chester was assigned to the 331st Infantry Regiment, 83rd Infantry Division.
Besides his wife, Chester was survived by his mother; four sisters, Ruth Sandrock of Fort Madison, Iowa, Dorothy Curley, Gertrude Imthurn, and Betty Gibbs all of Burlington; and four brothers, William, Robert, James, and Henry all of Burlington.
Staff Sergeant Chester R. Gibbs, United States Army, is buried in Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, Henri-Chapelle, Belgium.
