United States Army
David William Jones, the son of Doris A. Holmes, was born in Iowa City, Iowa on 4 December 1948. He was Killed-In-Action near Long Binh, South Vietnam on 20 December 1969.
While attending Assumption High School, David delivered groceries for Feeney's Market on Brady Street, was an usher at the RKO Theather, and worked at a cleaner on Locust Street pressing clothes. While playing football for Assumption High School, he had an ingrown toenail that would bother him for years until eventually the Army doctors in south Vietnam took the toenail off. After graduating from Assumption High School (Class of 1967), David worked for James Grothus Contractors in Davenport until he could save enough money to attend college.
David was drafted into the United States Army on 28 March 1969. After his basic and advanced training, he was sent to South Vietnam where he was assigned to Company D, 3rd Battalion, 7th Infantry, 199th Light Infantry Brigade.
David was survived by his mother, his step-father Eugene Holmes, a half-sister Debra Jean, and a half-brother Eugene Scott Holmes.

Private First Class David William Jones, United States Army, is buried at the Rock Island National Cemetery. His medals include the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart.
