David Dee Yoder

David Dee Yoder, son of Henry A. and K. Frances Schaefer Yoder, was born on 11 September 1949 in Burlington, Iowa.

 

David graduated from Burlington High School in 1967.

 

On 9 April 1968, David married the former Sheila Weiland in Burlington.

 

After graduating from high school, David enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.  An air traffic control specialist, David was later stationed at the El Toro Marine Corps Air Base in Santa Ana, California.  The morning of 4 June 1972, David and Sheila were enjoying a ride on their motorcycle through the streets of Santa Ana, when a car crashed into their motorcycle.  David was rushed to Santa Ana Hospital where he died of a ruptured spleen 12 hours later.  Sheila suffered arm and pelvic injuries.

 

Surviving David is his wife; two children, Kimberley Elizabeth and Stacey Frances; his parents; two brothers, Michael of Newberry, Florida and Daniel of Le Mont, Pennsylvania; one sister Ila Heyland of Wapello, Iowa; and several aunts and uncles.

 

Staff Sergeant David Dee Yoder, United States Marine Corps, was buried in Burlington’s Aspen Grove Cemetery will military honors.
