Glenn Edward Werhan, the son of Edward Andrew and Rose Ruch Werhan, was born on 5 July 1929.

 

While attending Burlington High School, Glenn played tackle on the schools 1945 and 1946 football teams.  He also was a strong weight man on the track team.  After a fine scholastic and athletic record at Burlington High School, Glenn graduated in June 1947.

 

Glenn enlisted in the United States Army in July 1948.  He died while a Prisoner of War on 23 May 1951. 

 

Corporal Glenn Edward Werhan, United States Army, was buried in Burlington’s Aspen Grove Cemetery on 4 December 1955.

 

In March 1969, Glenn’s mother offered to the school, the United States Flag that draped Glenn’s casket when his body was returned to his parents from Korea.  The Burlington Board of Education accepted the Flag on behalf of the staff, faculty, and students of the Burlington School District.  On 2 September 1969, the Flag was raised and flew over the new Burlington Community High School.  Today, the Glenn Werhan flag is placed in the High Schools Memorial Trophy Case to represent Glenn and all of the men from Burlington High School who lost their lives in the service of their country.
