James Edward Herin

James Edward Herin, the son of Eugene Edward and Muriel Irene Penney Herin, was born on 7 April 1948, in Burlington, Iowa.
He graduated from Burlington High School in 1966 and Southeastern Iowa Community College in Burlington.
On 15 June 1968, James married the former Barbara Ann Brown in Burlington.
James was drafted in to the United States Army on 5 February 1969. He left for Vietnam on 5 July 1969, where he was assigned to Company D, 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division. In a telegram to Barbara and James’ parents, they learned that while James’ unit was in a firefight near Binh Dinh, South Vietnam on 30 October 1969, he died from multiple fragmentation wounds. An Army Casualty Assistance Officer informed Barbara and James' parents, that James was first reported missing in action.
James was survived by his wife; his parents; a brother, Thomas at home; a sister, Barbara of Sperry, Iowa; his grandparents, Mrs. Walter Penney of Gladstone, Illinois, and Mr. and Mrs. Leshe Penney of Des Moines, Iowa.
Specialist Fourth Class James Edward Herin, United States Army, was buried in Burlington’s Memorial Park Cemetery.
