Theresa Maria Azevedo Howard
Theresa, the daughter of Arturo and Marucia Petrovna (Demidoff) Azevedo, was born on 10 January 1932 in Shanghai, China's Country Hospital.
She attended school at Sacred Heart Convent in Shanghai. After moving to San Diego, she attended Point Loma High School, graduating in 1950. After graduating from high school, Theresa went to work at Richard Lawton's drive-in restaurant on Ninth and Market Street.
On 10 September 1948, Theresa and her family left Shanghai aboard the S.S Gordon for the United States. The fourteen day trip include a stop in Yokohama, Japan. On 24 September, the S.S. Gordon arrived in San Francisco, California. The family went to San Diego to visit an aunt, fell in love with the city, and decided to stay.
While Theresa and her sister Irene were at cousin Marian's house, Marian arranged a blind a date for them. On Sunday, 24 September 1950, Theresa met Jimmie Howard, a 6'3" quiet Marine. After a few dates, they were married on 17 February 1951, at the Marine Base Chapel, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, in San Diego.
Today. Theresa is the co-sponsor of the U.S.S. Jimmie Howard, DDG 83. An Arleigh Burke Class guided missile destroyer named in honor of her husband.
Jimmie LeRoy Howard
Jimmie was born on 2 October 1951, at the Naval hospital in San Diego, California. Jim and Theresa didn't want anyone to call him junior, so they gave him a middle name of LeRoy.
Jimmie graduated from Point Loma High School in 1969 and went to work for John Hine Pontiac. He was seventeen at the time and worked his way up, from lot boy doing odd jobs, to becoming a Service Manager. As of 1998, he was a General Manager at Mike Farguson Chevrolet.
While at John Hine Pontiac, Jimmie met Colette Jeanne Jaggard. They were married on 6 September 1975, at the Naval Base Chapel, Naval Training Center, in San Diego. The reception was held at the Officer's Club at the Marine Base, Marine corps Recruit Depot located next to the Naval Training Center.
Jim and Colette have one daughter, Nicole Michelle.
Yvonne Maria and Yvette Maria Howard
Identical twins Yvonne and Yvette were born eleven months after Jimmie, at the Naval hospital in San Diego, California. Yvonne was born two minutes before Yvette.
Yvonne and Yvette graduated from Point Loma High School in 1970.
They went to work for the same furniture company shortly after graduation. Besides working at the furniture company, they went to the Police Reserve Academy to become Reserve Police Officers. After eleven years as a San Diego Police Reserve Officer, Yvette decided to concentrate on her job at a furniture company and resigned from the reserves. Yvonne continues to be a Police Reserve Officer obtaining the rank of Reserve Sergeant.
Barbara Carol Howard
Barbara was born on 17 January 1958, at the Camp Pendleton Hospital.
Barbara graduated from Point Loma High School in 1976. Barbara worked for a furniture company.
Linette Theresa Howard
Linette was born on 18 December 1958 at the Camp Pendleton Hospital.
Linette graduated from Point Loma High School in 1977.
She worked at a furniture store in San Diego and after a few months, quit her job, went to daily mass, and later volunteered to help the Dominican Sisters as the Sacred Heart Academy.
At nineteen, Linette announced her intentions to become a sister. On 2 September 1978, Linette left San Diego for the Mother House in Springfield, Illinois. She received her final vows and is now a teacher.
Darlene Noel Howard
Darlene was born on 24 December 1960, at Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego. Darlene was named after Jim's sister who died at the age of nineteen from carbon monoxide fumes from a parked car.
Darlene graduated from Point Loma high School in 1979. She graduated from Point Loma Nazarene College and now teaches in a Catholic elementary school.
Joseph Edward Howard
Joseph was born on 3 September 1972. Years later, Jim and Theresa found out that Jim's infant brother, who died before Jim was born, had the name Joseph Edward.
Joseph graduated from Point Loma High School in 1990.
Joseph currently works for a security company for different concerts and other special events.
