Lavern K. Roth

Lavern K. Roth, son of Harry C. and Eva Lucella Nichols Roth, was born on 24 August 1924, in Wayland, Iowa. 

 

While in high school, Lavern was Co-Captain of the Tumbling Squad.  On 6 June 1942, Laverne graduated from Burlington High School.

 

Lavern the service on 19 April 1943 and left for the Europe Theater in November 1943.  In January 1944, Lavern’s parents were informed that he was injured (several broken ribs, a gash above an eye, and broken thigh bone) when a weapon carrier truck he was in, went over an embankment in England.  On 4 March 1944, Lavern’s parents were informed that he died on 27 February 1944 in Bishops Lydeard, England from the injuries he received in the truck accident.  In his last letter home, dated the day he died, Lavern requested a new wrist watch.  At the time of Lavern’s death, he was assigned to the 2nd Ranger Infantry Battalion.

 

Lavern was survived by his parents; two brothers, Max and Dwain.

 

Private First Class Lavern K. Roth, United States Army, was buried in Burlington’s Memorial Park with military honors on 29 July 1948.
