Marvin Romaine Collins

Marvin Romaine Collins, the son of Frank and Hazel Collins, was born in Mount Union, Iowa circa 1917. The family moved to Burlington, Iowa in 1925.
Marvin graduated from Burlington (Iowa) High School, Class of 1935.
After graduating from high school, Marvin enlisted in the United States Navy. He took his basic training at the San Diego, California Naval Training Center. After basic training, he was assigned to the Pacific Fleet. In a 3 September 1942, War Department telegram, Marvin’s parents were informed that he was Killed-In-Action in a southwest Pacific engagement on 9 August 1942. At the time of his death, Marvin was on his second enlistment.
Besides his parents; Marvin was survived by three sisters, Mrs. Alfred Wiley, Violet, and Romona and his brother, Lyle.
Water Tender Class, Marvin Romaine Collins, United States Navy, is listed on the Tablets of the Missing at Manila American Cemetery, Manila, Philippines.
Among his awards and decorations is the Purple Heart.
