Merle E. Bolte, son of Edward L. and Ruth Irene Smith Bolte, was born on 25 February 1957 in Fort Madison, Iowa.
He graduated from Burlington High School (Class of 1975); Burlington, Iowa.
Merle died on 19 August 1978, from injuries he suffered in a traffic accident. At the time of his death, Merle was assigned at the San Diego Naval Station, San Diego, California.
Survivors include his parents, Burlington; son Timothy, San Diego; and sister Karen, at home.
Engineman Merle E. Bolte, United States Navy, was buried in Burlington’s Aspen Grove Cemetery on 24 August 1978.
