Merwyn Leroy Stratton

Merwyn Leroy Stratton, son of Charles Ernest and May Ellen Sovern Stratton, was born on 12 January 1931, in Burlington, Iowa.

 

He graduated from Burlington High School in 1951.

 

After graduating from high school, Merwyn enlisted in the United States Air Force.  A veteran of the Korean War, Merwyn was a career airman eventually rising to the rank of Master Sergeant.  While stationed at Norton Air Force Base in California, Merwyn was involved in a traffic accident that eventually took his life on 21 October 1968.  The accident took place between San Bernardino, California and Las Vegas, Neveda.

 

Surviving Merwyn are his parents; three sisters, Hazel M. Petty, Dorothy M. Blake, and Patricia L. Trosen all of Burlington; two brothers, Charles A. and Eugene H. both of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Master Sergeant Merwyn Leroy Stratton, United States Air Force, was buried with military honors in Burlington’s Aspen Grove Cemetery.  Air Force personnel from Chanute Air Force Base provided the military honors.
