Paul J. Kloppenborg, the son of John N. and Mary A. Kloppenborg, was born in Rapids City, Illinois on 26 September 1923.
Paul graduated from Sacred Heart School and Saint Ambrose Academy.
He entered the United States Army in June 1943. After his basic and advanced training, he was shipped to the South Pacific in January 1944, where he was assigned to the 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division.
In a War Department telegram, the family received word that on 11 April 1945, Paul was Killed-In-Action on Luzon Island in The Philippines.
Paul was survived by his parents; four sisters, Petronella Mauch, Mary A. Mapes, Christine J. Johnson, and Louise A. Remke; and six brothers, John P. (a Corporal in the United States Army in Germany), Andrew (a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army who served in the South Pacific), Henry (a Private in the United States Army who served in the South Pacific), Bernard (Moulder First Class in the United States Navy in the South Pacific), Theodore (a Private in the United States Army in France) and Nicholas.
Private First Class Paul J. Kloppenborg, United States Army, is buried in the Manila American Cemetery, Manila, The Philippines. Among his medals is the Purple Heart.
