Robert G. Chase, the only child of Walter Glen and Mary Esther Willem Chase, was born on 28 November 1925.

 

A 1943 graduate of Burlington High School, Robert worked at the Zephyr Theater.  While working at the theater, Robert met and eventually married Bonnie Jean Long.

 

Robert entered the United States Army on 28 December 1943, and took his basic training at Camp Blanding, Florida.  He left for the European Theater of Operations on 20 June 1944, where he served with an armored infantry unit.  In September 1944, Bonnie received a War Department telegram informing her that while in France, Robert was Killed-In-Action on 17 August.  Robert’s last letter to Bonnie was written 11 August, in which he stated, “…I have seen enough combat to last a lifetime…”

 

Robert was survived by his wife and parents.

 

Private First Class Robert G. Chase, United States Army, is buried in Burlington’s Aspen Grove Cemetery.
