Warren Bonewitz

Warren Bonewitz, the only son of Paul W. and Bonnie Davison Bonewitz, was born on 10 January 1926, in Savannah, Missouri. According to the 1930 Federal Census, the family was living in Peoria, Illinois. It is not exactly known when the family moved to Burlington, Iowa. He was a member of the First Methodist church.
A 1944 graduated of Burlington High School, Paul was prominent in student affairs. He was the business manager of the student newspaper (Purple and Gray), a member of the student council, vice president of the Hi-Y club, secretary-treasurer of the student organizations which included the Philomathean, Trogon, and drama clubs. He was active in school dramatics and music, and held two minor letters for football and track.
Warren entered the service six days after graduating from Burlington High School. After his basic training, Warren was assigned to the 5th Infantry Division. He left for the European Theater of Operations in January 1945. Warren’s parents received word in April 1945, that Warren was Killed-In-Action in Germany on 24 March 1945. They were notified a week earlier that he was Missing-In-Action.
Warren was survived by his parents and one sister, Betty Jean.
